Raffaella Galdi Bio

BIOGRAPHY

Raffaella Galdi (Genoa-Italy, 1973) is based in Berlin.

She is a teacher, previously a choreographer and dancer. She regularly teaches at the DANCEWORKS berlin school, responsible for the education in contemporary dance, improvisation, dance composition and repertoire.

Always true to an ongoing process of maturation, Raffaella dance pedagogic approach finds its base in three principles: the body-mind connection, the use of the bone structure and its alignment, the relationship of the body to gravity. It encourages to discover the body as an instrument and to deflect from habitual movement pathways. Her role as an educator is to coach, guide, assist via suggestions, assignments, exercises and to share and pass on her knowledge.

As a dancer Raffaella has been a member of the Belgian Companie Thor (1997-1999), the Dutch Het Spui Theater company (2000), the Berlin-based company Cie. Toula Limnaios (2002-2003), the Luxembourg company Cie. Unit Control (2003-2005). As a free lancer she was performing and participating in new creations with numerous choreographers touring throughout Europe and Africa (Rui Horta, Giorgio Rossi, LaborGras, Christoph Winkler, Ingo Reulecke).

Training in classical, modern and contemporary dance, she attended the Rotterdamse Dansacademie in Rotterdam, Holland (1995-97), where she received her diploma in modern dance, the  Ecole de Danse Rosella Hightower, in Cannes, France (1994-95) and Fine Art high school in Genoa, Italy (1987-91), where she received her diploma in visual art - fine arts. Raffaella early studies in architecture, drawing and plastic art influenced her approach on movement and performing art.
